A/R: Police Inaugurates Regional Elections Taskforce

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has inaugurated a ten-member Regional Elections Taskforce (RESTF) to help facilitate a smooth and peaceful elections in the coming 2020 general elections, Referendum and District assembly elections. Mypurefmonline.com reports

The Regional Elections Taskforce (RESTF) consists of commanders of all the security agencies such as the Regional Police Commander COP Kwasi Mensah Duku, Regional BNI Commander, Mr. David Adu Osei, Regional Immigration Commander, ACI Mr. Micheal Kwadade, Regional Commander Customs Divisional of GRA, Assistant Controller Mr. Fredrick Yankey and many others.

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander who is serving as the Commander of the Regional Elections Taskforce (RESTF), COP Kwasi Mensah Duku speaking at the inauguration of the taskforce said the aim of the intiative is to help the security agencies to deliberate and strategize on how they can ensure a smooth and peaceful elections in the coming days.

According to COP Kwasi Mensah Duku, the taskforce will ensure the overall security of the pending elections saying citizens, elections materials, and Electoral Commission (EC) officers would be protected before, during and after elections.

“The early activation of the Regional Elections Taskforce will ensure effective planning. We are committed to protect lives and properties before, during and after elections day. We will support the Electoral Commission with apt security which will make all the coming elections successful and peaceful. We will also make sure voters and electoral officers have their peace at polling stations.” COP Duku stated.

He also indicated that the taskforce will settle minor complaints at polling stations during elections.

“We will arrest and prosecute election offenders. Anyone who will attempt to take the law into his/her own hands will face the law. We will protect ballot boxes during and after elections.” He added.

Members of the taskforce were sworn in by Justice Kofi Akrowiah, a High Court Judge of Ghana.
